“Papa checked in at 8:12 AM”: the one line families actually wanted
A good day now reaches the family as a single line, once a day, instead of silence. Why we added it and why it stays one line.

What changed
Until this week, a parent’s good morning was invisible: no reply meant alerts, but a reply meant nothing — the family had to open the app to see the green tick. Now the first check-in of the day sends one line to the family, on WhatsApp or by email: “Papa checked in at 8:12 AM (India time)”. Once a day, never more, and off with one tap for anyone who does not want it.
Why one line and not a story
Several services send the family a narrative of how the parent sounded. We looked at it and decided against it. A parent does not want their mood summarised by a machine, and a child does not need a paragraph to feel relief — the time stamp does that. Where the parent says more, in words or a voice note, those words are forwarded as theirs.
Also this week
- A WhatsApp check-in that cannot be delivered (an old Android, a changed number) now turns into a phone call at once on the full plan, and an honest “we could not reach them” to the family on the free plan — instead of a silent day.
- A bare ten-digit number starting with 6–9 was assumed to be Indian, so a New York 917 number became +91. Fixed: the app asks for the country code and says what it saved.
- Share buttons on the ambulance-number pages and the time-difference pages, because those are the pages people forward to siblings.
