Why a call matters
A message that is not answered could mean a flat battery, a nap, a phone left in another room — or a fall. A message cannot tell the difference. A ringing phone often can: most parents who have simply missed the message pick up the call.

What the call sounds like
A calm voice greets your parent by name, in their language, says it is calling on behalf of their family, and asks them to press a key: 1 if they have taken their medicines, 2 if not yet, 3 if they would like their child to call. The call takes under a minute.
An ordinary phone call
The call is a normal voice call to your parent’s number. It does not need mobile data or Wi-Fi, it rings even when WhatsApp notifications are silenced, and it is answered with the keypad. For parents who open WhatsApp rarely, it is the part of the service that matters most.
Why not call straight away?
Most missed messages are innocent: a bath, a nap, a visit to the temple. A call three hours after a message, preceded by a reminder, finds most parents without alarming them. If your parent says they are unwell, or asks for a call, nothing waits — you are alerted at once.
If your parent rarely opens WhatsApp
Your parent needs WhatsApp to agree to the service and to receive the daily message. After that, a parent who seldom looks at it is still reached every day: the message is followed by a reminder and then by a phone call, answered with the keypad. Many families find that the call becomes the habit, and the message a bonus.
Tell your parent in advance
A call from an unknown number may be ignored. When you set things up, tell your parent that they may get a short call if they miss the message, and save the number on their phone.
