Parents outside India: daily check-ins wherever they live

Many Indian parents now live abroad themselves — with one child in Leicester, Fremont or Dubai, and another somewhere else. Athnova Care works for them too.

What works wherever your parent lives

Where the follow-up phone call reaches

Today: India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and France. In other countries a missed check-in goes from the reminder straight to your alert, and the app tells you so when you add the number. We switch countries on as families ask for them — write to care@athnova.in.

Emergency numbers are listed only where we are certain of them. A country that is not in this table can still be added: the check-in works wherever WhatsApp does, except China, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Cuba and Russia.

How to add a parent who lives abroad

  1. Enter their WhatsApp number with the country code, for example +44 for the UK.
  2. The app shows the country it found and the emergency number there. If the country has several time zones, choose theirs.
  3. Choose their language and the time of the daily check-in, on their clock.
  4. They tap “Yes, I agree” on WhatsApp. Nothing is sent before that.

Questions families ask

My parents live in the UK and I live in India. Can I use it?

Yes. It does not matter which of you is abroad. You add your parent’s number with its country code, they agree on WhatsApp, and the daily check-in runs on their local time.

Which languages can a parent abroad use?

English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam or Punjabi — the same ten, wherever they live.

Will the messages say 112?

No. Each message quotes the emergency number of the country your parent lives in — 999 in the UK, 911 in the US and Canada, 000 in Australia. Where we are not certain of the number, the message says "your local emergency number".

Is there a phone call if they do not reply?

In India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and France, yes. In other countries the phone call is not switched on yet: a missed check-in is followed by a reminder and then an alert to you.

Can you arrange tests or medicines outside India?

No. Tests, refills and the chemist service are arranged in India only. Medicine reminders, readings, reports and the monthly summary work everywhere.

Does it cost more?

No. $24 a month or $199 a year for the whole family, wherever your parents live.

Athnova Care tracks and coordinates care. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace a doctor, and it is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call the emergency number of the country your parent is in.

Know every day that your parents are okay

One WhatsApp message a day in their language. A phone call if they go quiet. An alert to you if something is wrong.
