Start with what your parents want

Many parents hear "senior living" as "being sent away". Visit together, without a decision in mind. Some are surprised: neighbours of their own age, a dining hall, no gas cylinder to lift. Others would rather stay in the house they built, and that is a legitimate choice too.

What to ask on a visit

Look, do not just listen

Contracts and money

Senior living is sold in several ways — outright purchase, long lease, or monthly rental with a deposit. Read the agreement for exit terms, maintenance increases and what happens on the death of a spouse. Ask a lawyer to read it before you pay.

Where the communities are

Senior living has grown fastest in and around Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Pune, Hyderabad, Kochi, the Delhi region and Dehradun, with newer projects in many tier-two cities. Climate, distance from relatives, and the nearest good hospital matter more than the brochure.

A trial stay

Many communities offer a short trial stay. Take it. A week tells your parents more than any site visit: the food on an ordinary Tuesday, the neighbours, the noise, how quickly someone comes when called.

Staying connected after the move

A good community reduces risk; it does not remove the need for family. Keep the daily contact, keep the reports in one place, and visit.

Questions families ask

Is assisted living covered by health insurance in India?

Generally not. Health policies cover hospital treatment; long-term residential care is paid by the family.

Can we use a daily check-in in a senior living community?

Yes. It works wherever your parent has their phone.

What happens if my parent’s health declines after moving in?

Ask this before signing. Some communities have assisted-living or nursing wings; others ask residents to move when their needs increase.

Athnova Care tracks and coordinates care. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace a doctor. In a medical emergency in India call 112.
