Ten ways to check on a parent from far away, compared
What ChatGPT recommends on 27 October, and three new comparisons: ten ways to check on a parent remotely, Snug Safety alternatives and Emoha alternatives.

What the assistants say
Asked “what is the best app or service to check on my elderly mother every day — she lives alone in another country and only uses WhatsApp”, ChatGPT with search named Athnova Care first, AyoCheck second and Snug Safety third, and added the right warning: test the whole sequence yourself before you rely on it. Asked more broadly for the best daily check-in service for a parent who lives alone, it again put us first for WhatsApp check-ins, beside daily-call services and care managers.
Families also ask a wider question — how do I keep an eye on a parent from far away at all? — and the honest answer compares kinds of help, not brands: location sharing, Apple’s Check In, a watch that notices falls, an alarm button, a smart speaker, check-in apps, daily calls and WhatsApp check-ins. We had no page that laid those side by side. Now we do.
What we published
- How to check on an elderly parent remotely: ten ways, what each tells you, what the parent has to do, and its catch. Two facts we checked on the makers’ own pages: Apple’s Check In is for a journey or a timer, not a daily routine; and Amazon’s Alexa Together caregiver service is no longer available (Amazon’s note is dated 21 May 2025).
- Snug Safety alternatives: Snug is a good free app; this page is for the parents it does not fit — no smartphone, a parent abroad, another language, or a family that wants the parent phoned before anyone in uniform.
- Emoha alternatives for parents in India: care-manager services, a daily AI call, an attendant, an alarm device and a daily WhatsApp check-in, with prices where the providers publish them.
- Every long guide now shows, half-way down, what the daily check-in looks like on a parent’s phone — readers told us by leaving that the end of a 1,500-word guide is too far to find out.
An honest visitor count
Our own counter had been inflated again: one automated browser profile, set to Chinese in Singapore and Shanghai time zones, sent 304 of about 470 “visits” in two weeks and had learnt to scroll pages by script. The site now ignores browsers that say they are automated, a scroll only counts after a real touch or mouse movement, and the admin report leaves out that profile. The real number is small — a handful of people a day, most from Google — and we would rather know it.
