The short answer

CheckinBee sends a text message at a time the family chooses; the senior replies YES or OK, and if nothing comes back the care circle is notified by SMS. It is sold in the US, Canada and the UK and works on any phone that can text. Athnova Care does the same job on WhatsApp — the app most parents in India, the Gulf, Latin America and much of Europe already use — with buttons instead of typed replies, in 21 languages, and with a phone call before the family is alerted. CheckinBee suits a parent in the US, Canada or UK who texts comfortably in English. Athnova Care suits a parent who lives on WhatsApp, speaks another language, or needs a call rather than another text when they go quiet.

What CheckinBee does well

It keeps everything inside the plainest channel there is: an SMS. No app, no data plan, no smartphone, and a flip phone from 2009 still works. The Family Plus plan’s three check-ins a day and a flexible reply window answer the two most common complaints about check-in apps — one chance a day, and a window that is too short. Its pricing is clear and its trial needs no card. For a parent in the US, Canada or the UK who texts, it is a straightforward choice.

What Athnova Care does differently

Athnova Care was built for a family spread across countries: the child in New Jersey, Toronto, London or Dubai, the parent in Lucknow, Chennai, Lahore, Manila, São Paulo or Bucharest. So the check-in goes out in the parent’s own language (21 languages), on the app they already open fifty times a day — WhatsApp — or, for a parent without it, as an ordinary phone call where they press 1. Silence is treated as a signal: a reminder, then a call, then the family, then a neighbour or relative who can knock on the door. Alerts quote the emergency number of the country the parent lives in, never a generic one.

Around that loop sit the things families abroad spend their evenings on: medicines and refills, readings and lab reports, an emergency card that opens offline, and a doctor-ready summary every month. None of it diagnoses or advises; the parent’s own doctor stays in charge.

Which one for your family

Can they be combined?

Yes, technically: CheckinBee and Athnova Care do not interfere with each other. In practice two daily check-ins annoy most parents, so pick one for the morning question. Some families use Athnova Care for a parent abroad or one who does not speak English, and CheckinBee for a relative in the United States who prefers it.

Questions families ask

Does CheckinBee work on WhatsApp?

Its website describes text-message (SMS) check-ins. Athnova Care’s check-in is a WhatsApp message with buttons, with a phone call as the follow-up and for parents without WhatsApp.

Does CheckinBee phone my parent?

Its pages describe texts and SMS alerts to the care circle. Athnova Care phones the parent in their language in 25 countries before alerting the family.

Which is cheaper for one parent?

CheckinBee’s Family plan is $13 a month. Athnova Care’s free plan covers one parent’s daily WhatsApp check-in, reminder and family alerts at no cost; the full plan with calls is $12 a month or $99 a year for up to two parents.

Can my parent reply in Hindi or Spanish?

CheckinBee’s website is in English and describes YES/OK replies. Athnova Care sends the message and buttons in the parent’s language and understands everyday replies such as “le li”, “ya las tomé” or “hasta mañana” in their language.

Athnova Care tracks and coordinates care. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace a doctor. In a medical emergency in India call 112.
