Snug Safety vs Athnova Care: an app tap, or a message and a call?
Snug asks the senior to tap an app each day; Athnova Care sends the question on WhatsApp or by phone call. Prices in October 2026, and who suits which.

The short answer
Snug Safety is a daily check-in app for people who live alone: the senior opens the app and taps a green button before a time they choose, and their contacts are texted if they do not. Athnova Care turns it round: we send the question to your parent every morning — a WhatsApp message with three buttons, or a phone call where they press 1 — in their language, and silence is followed by a reminder, a call, the family and a neighbour. Snug suits a senior with a smartphone who will remember to tap and wants independence. Athnova Care suits a parent who would rather answer than remember, may not use apps, may not speak English, or lives in another country from you.
Side by side
| Snug Safety | Athnova Care | |
|---|---|---|
| Who starts the check-in | The senior: they open the app and tap before their chosen time (or call a toll-free line) | We do: a WhatsApp message or a phone call arrives at the time you choose |
| What the parent needs | A smartphone with the Snug app (iPhone or Android), or a phone to call the line | WhatsApp on any phone, or any phone at all for the daily call |
| When nobody answers (free plan) | Emergency contacts get a text, with the last location | A reminder, then an alert to the whole family with the neighbour or relative you named |
| When nobody answers (paid plan) | Dispatch: a dispatcher phones the senior, then the contacts, and if nobody is reached arranges a wellness check with local responders | A phone call to your parent in their language, then the family, then the neighbour or relative is messaged and phoned. We never send police or an ambulance ourselves |
| Check-ins a day | One free; up to three on Dispatch | One morning check-in, plus medicine reminders through the day on the full plan |
| Languages | Not listed (the website is in English) | 17 for your parent, 7 for the family app |
| Medicines, readings, reports | Not listed | Medicines taken or not, BP and sugar photos read and charted, lab reports with trends, a monthly summary |
| Where it works | Not listed; the toll-free line and responder network point to the US | WhatsApp anywhere; the phone call in 25 countries, including India, the US, the UK and Canada |
| Published price (October 2026) | Free forever for one daily check-in; Dispatch $12.50 a month or $149.99 a year, 14-day money-back guarantee | Free plan for one parent; full plan $12 a month or $99 a year for two parents and four family members, 14-day trial, no card |

When Snug Safety is the better fit
- Your parent lives in the US, uses a smartphone every day and likes the idea of checking in themselves.
- You want someone official sent to the door when nobody, including you, can be reached — Snug Dispatch arranges a wellness check with local responders.
- You want the alert to include their last known location.
- You want several check-ins a day (Dispatch allows up to three).
When Athnova Care is the better fit
- Your parent will not remember to open an app, or does not use apps at all: the question comes to them.
- They are more at ease in Hindi, Tamil, Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog or another language than in English.
- They live in another country from you — India, Pakistan, the Gulf, Latin America, Africa or South-East Asia — where a US responder network cannot help.
- You would rather a neighbour or relative you trust knocked on the door than have police sent.
- You also want to know about medicines, readings and reports, and to share it all with brothers and sisters.
The honest limits of each
A check-in the senior has to start relies on them remembering, every day, for years; reminders help, but the habit is theirs to keep. A check-in that is sent to them relies on them hearing the phone or seeing the message, which is why both services follow silence up. Neither is a fall detector: a parent who answers at 8 AM and falls at 9 is noticed at the next check-in, so for a parent at high risk a wearable SOS button still matters.
Using both
For a parent in the US with a smartphone, they can sit side by side: Snug for the tap they choose to make, Athnova Care for the question in their language, the medicines and the family. If you choose one, choose by who should start the check-in each day — your parent, or us.
Questions families ask
Is Snug Safety free?
Yes, in October 2026 its website lists a free plan with one daily check-in and text alerts to emergency contacts. Its paid Dispatch plan is $12.50 a month or $149.99 a year. Athnova Care has a free plan for one parent, and the full plan is $12 a month for the whole family.
What is a good Snug Safety alternative for a parent without a smartphone?
A daily check-in that comes to them: Athnova Care's WhatsApp message with buttons, or its daily phone call that works on any phone, including a landline. Snug also offers a toll-free line the senior can call to check in.
Does Athnova Care send police for a wellness check?
No. We remind your parent, phone them, then alert you and the neighbour or relative you chose. If you think they are in danger, call the emergency number where they live; our guide on wellness checks explains how to ask for one.
Does Athnova Care need an app on my parent's phone?
No. Your parent uses the WhatsApp they already have, or simply answers a phone call. Only the family uses the app.
