The short answer

Iamfine has made automated daily calls to seniors living alone in the United States since 2012: the senior answers the call (or calls in), and if they miss it after several attempts their Care Circle is told. Athnova Care starts with a WhatsApp message in the parent’s own language — one tap to answer — and uses the phone call as the follow-up when there is no reply, then the family, then a neighbour. Iamfine suits an English-speaking senior in the US who likes the ritual of a call. Athnova Care suits a parent who lives in another country from you, speaks another language, or would rather tap than talk — and a family that also wants medicines, readings and reports in one place.

What Iamfine does well

It is the longest-running service of its kind in the United States, and its simplicity is the point: nothing to install, any phone works, and a senior who does not want to be “monitored” still gets to pick up the phone and say they are fine. The 14-day trial without a card, and a yearly price of $120, are both fair for a human-free service. If your parent lives in the US, speaks English and prefers a call to a message, it is a sound choice.

What Athnova Care does differently

Athnova Care was built for a family spread across countries: the child in New Jersey, Toronto, London or Dubai, the parent in Lucknow, Chennai, Lahore, Manila, São Paulo or Bucharest. So the check-in goes out in the parent’s own language (21 languages), on the app they already open fifty times a day — WhatsApp — or, for a parent without it, as an ordinary phone call where they press 1. Silence is treated as a signal: a reminder, then a call, then the family, then a neighbour or relative who can knock on the door. Alerts quote the emergency number of the country the parent lives in, never a generic one.

Around that loop sit the things families abroad spend their evenings on: medicines and refills, readings and lab reports, an emergency card that opens offline, and a doctor-ready summary every month. None of it diagnoses or advises; the parent’s own doctor stays in charge.

Which one for your family

Can they be combined?

Yes, technically: Iamfine and Athnova Care do not interfere with each other. In practice two daily check-ins annoy most parents, so pick one for the morning question. Some families use Athnova Care for a parent abroad or one who does not speak English, and Iamfine for a relative in the United States who prefers it.

Questions families ask

Does Iamfine work outside the United States?

Its website describes a US service that works with any phone; it does not list other countries. Athnova Care sends WhatsApp check-ins to a parent in any country and phones them in 25 countries.

Does Iamfine call in Hindi or Spanish?

Its website is in English and does not list other languages. Athnova Care sends messages and calls in 21 languages, including Hindi, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese.

Which is cheaper?

Iamfine publishes $14.99 a month or $120 a year. Athnova Care is free for one parent on the free plan (WhatsApp check-in, reminder and family alerts) and $12 a month or $99 a year for the full plan with calls, for up to two parents and four family members.

Does either one send the police?

Neither service dispatches emergency services. Iamfine notifies the Care Circle; Athnova Care alerts the family and the neighbour you chose and quotes the local emergency number for you to call.

Athnova Care tracks and coordinates care. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace a doctor. In a medical emergency in India call 112.
