Daily check-in in French for your parents (Français)

Daily WhatsApp check-ins and calls in French for your parents, wherever they live. See the exact messages they get and the replies they can give.

Families from Dakar, Abidjan, Bamako, Douala or Port-au-Prince often have children in Paris, Brussels, Montreal or New York. The parents stay, and WhatsApp keeps the family close.

The check-in uses "vous", as one speaks to an elder, and a single tap answers it.

What your parent sees, in French

These are the real messages, exactly as they are sent. The English under each one is for you; your parent sees only the French.

Replies in their own words

Parents do not always use the buttons. These everyday replies, typed the way people type them, are understood:

Your parent typesUnderstood as
déjà prisI have taken them
oui, prisyes, taken
pas encorenot yet
je ne vais pas bienI am not well
appelez-moiplease call

Words that suggest an emergency — a fall, chest pain, breathlessness, in French or in English — are recognised too. You are alerted at once and your parent is reminded to call the emergency number of the country they live in.

Where French is spoken

French is spoken in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Quebec; across West and Central Africa — Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and Haiti, Madagascar, Mauritius and the Maghreb.

Families abroad

French-speaking families with a parent far away live mainly in France, Belgium, Canada, the US, Switzerland and the UK.

Your parent can live in almost any country: the check-in, the alerts and the emergency card quote the emergency number of the country they live in. Tests and medicine refills are arranged in India only. Parents outside India →

Questions families ask

Can my parent reply in French?

Yes. They can tap the buttons, which are in French, or type or speak in their own words. Replies in French, including replies mixed with English, are understood.

Is the phone call also in French?

Yes, in the countries our phone call reaches: 25 countries, including India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Elsewhere the WhatsApp reminder is in French, and if it is not answered you are alerted straight away.

Can each parent have a different language?

Yes. The language is set for each parent, and you can change it at any time.

Which language does the family app use?
