Daily check-in in Spanish for your parents (Español)
Daily WhatsApp check-ins and calls in Spanish for your parents, wherever they live. See the exact messages they get and the replies they can give.
Millions of families are split between two countries: children in Houston, Los Angeles, Madrid or Toronto, parents in Guadalajara, Bogotá, Lima or Caracas. WhatsApp is already how those families talk every day.
The check-in uses "usted", as one speaks to an elder. One tap answers it, and the family hears at once when something is wrong.
What your parent sees, in Spanish
These are the real messages, exactly as they are sent. The English under each one is for you; your parent sees only the Spanish.
If they do not answer
About three hours later your parent gets a gentle reminder in Spanish. In the countries our phone call reaches — 25 countries, including India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar — a phone call in Spanish follows. If there is still no answer, you are alerted, and then the local contacts you chose. Which countries, and their emergency numbers →
Once a week
Replies in their own words
Parents do not always use the buttons. These everyday replies, typed the way people type them, are understood:
| Your parent types | Understood as |
|---|---|
| ya me las tomé | I have taken them |
| sí, ya | yes, done |
| todavía no | not yet |
| no me siento bien | I am not feeling well |
| llámame | please call |
Words that suggest an emergency — a fall, chest pain, breathlessness, in Spanish or in English — are recognised too. You are alerted at once and your parent is reminded to call the emergency number of the country they live in.
Where Spanish is spoken
Spanish is spoken in Mexico, Central and South America, Spain, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico — and at home by about 40 million people in the United States.
Families abroad
Spanish-speaking families with a parent in another country live mainly in the US, Spain, Canada, Chile, Argentina and across Europe.
Your parent can live in almost any country: the check-in, the alerts and the emergency card quote the emergency number of the country they live in. Tests and medicine refills are arranged in India only. Parents outside India →
Questions families ask
Can my parent reply in Spanish?
Yes. They can tap the buttons, which are in Spanish, or type or speak in their own words. Replies in Spanish, including replies mixed with English, are understood.
Is the phone call also in Spanish?
Yes, in the countries our phone call reaches: 25 countries, including India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Elsewhere the WhatsApp reminder is in Spanish, and if it is not answered you are alerted straight away.
Can each parent have a different language?
Yes. The language is set for each parent, and you can change it at any time.
Which language does the family app use?
English or Hindi. The family app is for you; your parent only uses WhatsApp and their phone.
