Daily check-in in Turkish for your parents (Türkçe)

Daily WhatsApp check-ins and calls in Turkish for your parents, wherever they live. See the exact messages they get and the replies they can give.

Around three million people with roots in Türkiye live in Germany alone, and many more in the Netherlands, Austria, France and the UK — often with parents who went back to Türkiye, or never left. WhatsApp is how these families talk every day.

The check-in uses "siz", as one speaks to an elder, and is written so that no name ever needs a Turkish case ending — it reads naturally whatever your parent is called.

What your parent sees, in Turkish

These are the real messages, exactly as they are sent. The English under each one is for you; your parent sees only the Turkish.

If they do not answer

About three hours later your parent gets a gentle reminder in Turkish. In the countries our phone call reaches — 25 countries, including India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar — a phone call in Turkish follows. If there is still no answer, you are alerted, and then the local contacts you chose. Which countries, and their emergency numbers →

Replies in their own words

Parents do not always use the buttons. These everyday replies, typed the way people type them, are understood:

Your parent typesUnderstood as
aldımI have taken them
evet aldımyes, taken
henüz değilnot yet
iyi değilimI am not well
beni arayınplease call

Words that suggest an emergency — a fall, chest pain, breathlessness, in Turkish or in English — are recognised too. You are alerted at once and your parent is reminded to call the emergency number of the country they live in.

Where Turkish is spoken

Turkish is spoken in Türkiye and Northern Cyprus, and Turkish communities in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Belgium and the UK.

Families abroad

Turkish families with a parent far away live mainly in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK and the US.

Your parent can live in almost any country: the check-in, the alerts and the emergency card quote the emergency number of the country they live in. Tests and medicine refills are arranged in India only. Parents outside India →

Questions families ask

Can my parent reply in Turkish?

Yes. They can tap the buttons, which are in Turkish, or type or speak in their own words. Replies in Turkish, including replies mixed with English, are understood.

Is the phone call also in Turkish?

Yes, in the countries our phone call reaches: 25 countries, including India, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Elsewhere the WhatsApp reminder is in Turkish, and if it is not answered you are alerted straight away.

Can each parent have a different language?

Yes. The language is set for each parent, and you can change it at any time.

Which language does the family app use?

English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic or Indonesian — you choose. The family app is for you; your parent only uses WhatsApp and their phone.
